Capsule Bralette – Knitting Pattern #1

Capsule Bralette Knitting Pattern

Classic bralette pattern to bring handcrafted comfort to your wardrobe.

Materials

Lion Brand Wool-Ease Yarn or more sustainable yarn
5mm circular knitting needles
Scrap yarn or another knitting needle to hold about 50 stitches

Optionally, I used 3mm or smaller circular knitting needles to knit the bottom band and straps to make it more durable to stretch.

Notation Legend

k#knit # of stitches in a row
p#purl # of stitches in a row
(#)# of stitches on the needles as a result
add1add 1 stitch into the row
slip1slip 1 stitch purl-wise onto needle

Pattern instructions

Pattern was freehanded to 32B bra size so adjust to your own measurements.

Bottom band

Cast 84 stitches onto the needle.
12 rows k1 p1 for the band (84)

Body

1 row k84 (84)
1 row k9, add1, k1, add1, k1, add1, k20, add1, k1, add1, k1, add1, k9, k42 (90)
12 rows k90 (90)
6 rows k48, k1 p1 for 42 stitches (90)
Bind off the 42 k1 p1 stitches (the back of the bralette), leaving 48 left on the needles.

Chest

Split the remaining 48 stitches in half, slipping 24 stitches on a separate piece of yarn or needle to hold them while you work on one side of the chest area.

1. slip1, knit until 1 stitch left, slip1 (24)
2. Turn to purl side
3. slip2tog, purl until 2 stitches left, slip2tog (22)
Repeat the above 3 steps until you are down to 4 stitches in the row.
Stitch count should be:
24, 22, 22, 20, 20, 18, 18, 16, 16, 14, 14, 12, 12, 10, 10, 8, 8, 6, 6, 4 on knit side

Straps

Note: I suggest trying on the bralette and using a tape measure to estimate how long the straps need to be for you from the front to the back. As I get close to the final row, I use bobby pins to pin the straps to the back and try the bralette on to make sure I like the length and adjust it before cutting and sewing the straps in.

52 rows k4, turn to purl side, p4 (counts as 2 rows)
Bind off last row and cut yarn, leaving 6 inches to sew the strap to the back of the bralette and sew in the ends.

Repeat Chest steps 1-3 and Straps for other side of the bralette.

Sew the straps to the back of the bralette however you like and sew in the ends.

Enjoy!
